A U-shaped ceremonial complex including a stepped platform in three tiers, Cerro Sechin is best known for the remarkable sculptured granite slabs with which the platform was faced.
These were arranged in a procession, consisting of a few victorious warriors, dressed in loincloths and head-dresses and furnished with weapons, and many prisoners.
These unfortunate people are shown naked and experiencing various kinds of torture and violent death. There are many representations of severed heads, sometimes worn at the belts of the warriors, but more frequently arranged in piles.
The scene may depict some real local triumph in war, but more probably represents a mythological scene important to the local people.
